On April 29th, Karl Smith (CEO and President) and Gary Smith (Vice-President, Operations) unveiled plans for new the FortisAlberta Flying Field which is expected to be complete by the end of June. This $100,000 project will redevelop the centre’s flying field creating a new and improved interpretive focal point.
The main enhancement will be a 100-person, outdoor amphitheatre constructed of paving stones. This will replace the centre’s old wood construction bleacher seating. The area will also include an interpretive display featuring demonstration power poles and attached devices used by Fortis Alberta to discourage birds from contacting energized power lines. The display will create a valuable tool to remind visiting schoolchildren about power line safety.
