Major Communities Facility Program
In 2009 our organization received a $500,000 grant from the Major Communities Facilities Program. This generous funding allowed us to make many major improvements throughout our facility. These numerous improvements included extensive landscaping/nature-scaping upgrades, installation of artificial nest structures for wild birds around our wetlands, pathway enhancements, waterfalls, new aviaries and free-flight bird display areas. We also were able to construct a new multi-purpose utility building and improve the grading and drainage across our site which greatly improved accessibility during inclement weather.
Working with matching support from other supporters, including many volunteers, the impact of this grant has been transformational. This generous funding helped us significantly rebuild aviaries that house the injured birds in our care as well as elevating the quality of visitor experience for our many guests ranging from school groups to tourists we attract from around the world. The funding has improved our site so much, many visitors now describe our facility as one of the premier wildlife conservation facilities for birds of prey in North America. An added benefit has been the positive impact on our long term sustainability, contributing to doubling our annual attendance to 20,000 visitors per summer.
We would like to offer our most sincere thanks to the Major Communities Facilities Program which is funded by Alberta Lotteries under the Province of Alberta's department of Culture and Tourism.

Spirit is a very special eagle and perhaps sharing his story can help save the lives of other eagles and birds of prey in the wild. |
